Smear

Lick words off the lips
That always say too much
Know that a conversation
Could be ended by a touch

One action could last forever
The dimensions of a moment, soft
When dissected in such a manner
That finds all the meaning lost

Open arms to demented tongues
Trapped in a fierce abrasion
Embrace the serpent sent
To seek division in the equation

Multiple minds that constantly find
A means for which to battle
To stand apart from cold-hearted ones
And take a back seat in their struggle

Best of: Bristol Graff

Last weekend, I was showing family round Bristol and decided to make most of what we saw all the graffiti/street art that was on offer. I fell in love with this city all over again....

These were taken mostly on Nelson Street in the Centre

These were taken on North Street, Bedminster

Backward

This is yet another picture taken when in Amsterdam, drawn by an artists who did all his 'people drawings' upside down. As in, not just painted the figure and then flipped the picture, but actually structured and painted the picture opposite to what he was seeing. The whole thing kind of blows my mind, that you would even think to start on a road that's certain to finish in a completely backward way. Which brought the link to my mind when choosing a poem to accompany it.

Backward

Actions speak louder than words-
Never thought through.
Gossip for secrets heard-
Battling for the truth.

Whispers freeze attraction,
Heat that's left to simmer.
Assumption leads to facts...
But could it occur sooner?

Events that aren't talked about,
Dormant in a memory.
Who could know where they stand
When they're left to blunder blindly?

Not a question for the heart,
We'll let the Lust decide.
If not thought about when apart,
Complications are pushed aside.

Because tongues are loose,
And judgements are fast.
But will questions be answered,
When thighs are spread apart?

I chose this picture to go with this poem because it makes me think of the thin line between what's wanted short term and what's needed long term. For instance, all living things depend on light and water to survive. But too much light and the colour of the petals are impaired. Too much water and the stem begins to curve, the flower drowns.

To me, it symbolised the trap that's so easy to fall into. Finding the balance between acting on impulse and thinking about the repercussions that are sure to follow.

Would I still want you if I could have you,
Is it your silence that draws me in?
The mystery that seems to cloud you,
Makes me second guess; everything.

Phrases I would have said before-
Sentences that didn't need thought.
Sound different when secrets hit the floor,
And we've unveiled what we sought.

But now, over thinking actions,
Without uttering a single word.
Leaves me craving satisfaction,
With no idea how to make it curb.
